Sensible Supplementation

Why is it important?

Sifting through the forest of supplement options can be confusing. However, rest assured they are an essential part of a healthy diet. Your body needs vitamin and minerals to function correctly and to support its processes. Vitamins and minerals support everything from growth to immune response and hormone regulation to nerve functioning. You get your vitamins and minerals from eating a well-balanced diet of whole foods. Let's be honest life is busy! Our lifestyle, palate, time, energy, or priorities make it hard for us to get all the nutrition we need through foods. Therefore, some supplementation is necessary to help to fill in the gaps. Think of supplements as insurance for a healthy diet! Still confused if you need to supplement? Here are some signs and symptoms that may indicate that supplements are right for you:

You might need to supplement:

- You eat food grown in de-mineralized soil.
– You are sedentary.
– High-stress lifestyle
– You drink alcohol in excess [more than 1 – 2 glasses a day] – You are pregnant or nursing.

– Digestive issues
– You have a medical condition
– Lowered immunity
– You are not eating a healthy diet.
– Chronic fatigue
– You are eating processed foods or fast food restaurants – Low energy

What is an Isotonic Solution?

“Isotonic” means having the same carbohydrate and electrolyte concentration as your body’s own fluids. All our bodily fluids, such as sweat, blood, tears, and saliva, are naturally isotonic. Therefore the nutrients in the isotonic form are recognized by your body as self. The isotonic state allows nutrients to pass directly into the small intestine, delivered efficiently for optimal nutrient concentration.

These supplements reduce the time it takes for nutrients to reach the bloodstream and lessens nutrient loss by digestion. They are also buffered to minimize stomach upset. Approximately 95% of the content of the supplement in a fluid form is ready for absorption in the small intestine in about 5-8 minutes. Isotonic delivery of nutrients is second only to intravenous solutions, some of which are in fact, also isotonic.
